Papua – The fatal shooting of Police Brigadier Kiki Supriyadi in Puncak Jaya, Papua, marks a new point of provocation by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) against the local community. Lekagak Telenggen, the leader of the attack, proudly claimed responsibility for the incident.
Furthermore, through its spokesperson, Sebby Sambom, the group openly incited the people of Papua to engage in attacks against security forces and the Indonesian government. This provocative effort poses a serious threat to stability in the Land of Cenderawasih.
Puncak Jaya Police Chief, AKBP Kuswara, emphasized that his forces immediately responded to the incident by conducting sweeps in several locations suspected of being bases for the separatist group.
Strict measures will be taken to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators. Security at various strategic points in Puncak Jaya has also been increased to prevent potential follow-up attacks.
The Police Chief of Puncak Jaya stressed that law enforcement will be carried out in accordance with the applicable regulations, reaffirming the government's stance that it will not allow these terrorist groups, enemies of the state, to continue spreading terror in this land known as the Little Heaven Fallen to Earth.
The provocations carried out by the KKB not only pose physical threats but also spark social unrest among the people of Papua. Papua’s indigenous leader, Herman Yoku, strongly condemned the brutal actions of the group.
According to him, the KKB often manipulates the sentiments of the local population under the guise of fighting for independence, when in reality, not all Papuans support the separatist movement. Herman reminded that the majority of Papuans seek peace and progress, not prolonged conflict.
The KKB is seen not only as creating political instability but also violating human rights (HAM) by oppressing civilians. Herman pointed out that the group continuously manipulates the community to attack the government, but these actions mostly harm Papuans themselves.
The indigenous leader called on the KKB to cease their violent actions, which provide no benefit to the people of Papua. Herman also urged all layers of society in Puncak Jaya to avoid being provoked by the group and to maintain peace for the sake of a safe and prosperous Papua.
Attacks by the KKB are not new phenomena in Papua. The separatist group has repeatedly committed acts of violence targeting security forces, health workers, and civilians.
Their actions, however, remain rooted in terror and violence. General Agus Subiyanto stated that the TNI will take firm action against any violent acts committed by the group. For him, there is no room for terrorism and rebellion in a sovereign state.
General Agus also highlighted the group’s numerous violent acts, including the murder of educators and health workers, as well as attacks on TNI and police personnel.
He affirmed that the government would not stand idly by while the KKB continues to undermine security in Papua. He emphatically stated that the state would not allow the separatist group to create a state within a state. Law enforcement and security measures in Papua will be strengthened to safeguard the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).
The government and security forces continue to strive to ensure that the people of Papua can live in peace and safety. With the provocations launched by the KKB, it is essential for all elements of society to avoid being swayed and to uphold the principles of peace. As Herman Yoku expressed, the people of Papua desire development rather than prolonged violence.
The central government, under the leadership of President Joko Widodo, also continues to focus on development in the Papua region. Numerous infrastructure projects and economic policies have been initiated to ensure the welfare of the people in this land often referred to as the City of Gold.
In addition to physical development, the government is committed to improving the quality of life for the Papuan people through various inclusive social and economic programs. With this approach, it is hoped that conditions in Papua will become more conducive, allowing the population to enjoy the benefits of more equitable development.
In this context, the role of the local community is of utmost importance. Their participation in maintaining peace and supporting government development programs will help reduce the influence of separatist groups that continue to disrupt order.
Through synergy between the community, the government, and security forces, it is hoped that the conflict caused by the KKB will soon come to an end, and Papua can achieve a brighter future free from violence.
The provocation launched by the KKB following the shooting of Brigadier Kiki Supriyadi clearly aims to create chaos and worsen the security situation in Papua. However, the group's efforts must be met with strong legal action and the support of peace-loving citizens. The people of Papua, who have long been the primary victims of this prolonged conflict, deserve a safer and more prosperous life under the umbrella of the Indonesian state.
